PetroFed Awards 2009-2010

The PetroFed Oil & Gas Industry Awards 2009 & 2010 for excellence in performance in various categories were presented by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas Sh. S. Jaipal Reddy at a well attended function at New Delhi on May 10, 2011. The Hon’ble Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Sh. R.P.N. Singh could not attend.

Congratulating the Award winners the Hon’ble Union Minister complimented PetroFed for not only drawing-up the Award categories in a careful and imaginative way but also for the fact that eminent people were chosen to man the awards committee and the jury. He also expressed happiness over the fact that two new Award categories had been created in 2010, one for Environmental Sustainability & another for Drilling Services. Addressing the gathering, he added that he did not see any justification for the inordinate rise in the price of oil and said that speculation in such a vital area should not be permitted in an unregulated manner. He urged all political parties for the evolution and development of a political consensus on the issue of oil prices in the country since we can do nothing to control international prices.

Earlier, welcoming invitees, Chairman PetroFed& Chairman, IndianOil Sh. R.S. Butola pointed out that the PetroFed Awards are a recognition of the capabilities of the hydrocarbon industry in India which compares with the best globally. Complimenting the Government for its pragmatic decision to de-control petrol last year he looked forward to freedom for diesel in the near future and an early decision on LPG and Kerosene pricing besides inclusion of oil & gas under GST with full pass through.

The Vice Chairman, PetroFed and President (Refinery Business), RIL Shri P. Raghavendran while proposing a vote of thanks at the conclusion of the awards ceremony expressed the hope that the industry issues would be expeditiously resolved by the Government. The Director General, PetroFed, Shri A. K. Arora had earlier given a brief on the genesis of the Awards.

The scheme of Awards is open to all companies operating in India in the oil & gas sector. The evaluation is undertaken in line with pre-determined weightages assigned to various parameters fixed after due validation. Each award category must receive a prescribed minimum number of applications for giving away an award. Each award carries a trophy and a citation. The Woman Executive of the Year award also carries a cash prize of` one lakh. The Innovator of the Year individual award has a cash component of ` two lakh while the team award has a prize of ` five lakh with each member of the team getting atleast ` 50,000/-.

The lessons learnt during awards evaluation every year are incorporated. The application form for each award has been carefully designed and validated to minimize subjectivity while giving benefit of additional initiatives taken. A significant contribution has been made by PetroFed knowledge partner and member company, PricewaterhouseCoopers in conceptualizing the Awards scheme and the preliminary evaluation of applications.

The Awards Committee is headed by Dr. Prodipto Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow, TERI and former Secretary to the Government of India. The members of the Awards Committee are Shri S. K. Manglik, former CMD, ONGC; Shri P. P. Bagchi, former Executive Director, Oil Coordination Committee, and Managing Director, United Carbon (India) Ltd.; Shri P. K.
